How does the Stock Market work?

Marahil ang iba sa atin ay alam na ang pasikot-sikot sa Stock Market, ngunit para sa mga ka-noypi nating magsisimula pa lang mag-invest sa Stock Market, read my post “Stock Market for beginners” para malaman natin ang mga basics ng stock market investing.

At sa mga nagtatanong, kung paano ba gumagana ang Stock Market at sinu-sino ang mga nasa likod nito, narito ang kasagutan sa ating katanungan.

How does the Stock Market work?

 Ang Philippine Stock Market ay binubuo ng apat na grupo, ito ay ang mga sumusunod:

1. INVESTORS –  Ito ang mga tao o kumpanya na mayroong pag-aaring “shares” ng mga publicly-listed companies sa Philippine Stock Exchange o PSE. Tinatawag din ito na Stockholder o Shareholder .

2. TRADING PARTICIPANTS (or STOCK BROKERS) –  Mayroong dalawang uri ng Stock Broker , ito ay ang Traditional Stock Broker at ang Online Stock Broker (see “Stock Market for beginners”). Sila ang nagsisilbing agent o ahente sa pagitan ng mga “buyers & sellers” ng stocks ng mga publicly-listed companies. Ang mga Trading Participants(or Stock Brokers) ay miyembro ng Philippine Stock Exchange(PSE) at licensed ng Security and Exchange Commision(SEC) at siyang otorisado upang mag-execute ng buy & sell on behalf of the investors.

3. PHILIPPINE STOCK EXCHANGE (PSE) – Ang papel ng PSE ay upang pagtagpuin ang mga “buyers” at “sellers” ng mga stocks ng mga publicly-listed companies. Ang kagawarang ito ang siyang nagpapatupad ng mga rules & regulations para sa kanilang mga miyembro (Trading Participants & Publicly-listed Companies)  upang siguruhing maayos at patas ang lahat ng mga transactions sa pagitan ng mga Investors.

4. PUBLICLY-LISTED COMPANIES  – Ito ang mga kumpanya na nag-apply sa Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE) upang mai-offer sa publiko ang kanilang “Shares of Stocks”. Kinakailangan nilang mag-submit ng mga requirements sa PSE bago maaprubahan na maging Publicly-Listed Companies.(Note : Hindi lahat ng kumpanya ay miyembro ng PSE, yung mga nag-apply lang at nag-ooffer ng kanilang shares of stocks sa publiko. Sa kasalukuyan, mayroon lamang 300+ companies ang miyembro nito).

Ngayong alam na natin ang mga nasa likod ng stock market, alamin naman natin ang relasyon ng bawat isa :

• Between the PSE & Publicly-listed Companies

Ang mga kumpanya ay mag-aapply sa PSE upang maging “publicly-listed” upang payagan silang magbenta ng shares sa investing public. Ang PSE ang siyang magpoprotekta sa kapakanan ng mga investors,at sinisigurong  nag comply ang mga kumpanyang ito sa kanilang rules & regulations.

• Between the PSE & Trading Participants(Brokers)

Ang PSE ay hindi direktang nakikipag-ugnayan sa ating mga investors . Tanging ang mga Trading Participants(Brokers) lamang na licensed ng SEC at miyembro ng PSE ang pinapayagang bumili(buy) o magbenta(sell) ng share of stock on our behalf. Ganito ang ginagawa nila upang maging simple at madali ang lahat ng mga transactions.

• Between the Trading Participants(Brokers) & Investors(You!)

Ang mga investors ay kinakailangang makipag-ugnayan sa kanilang broker upang makapag-execute ng kanilang buy & sell orders. Kung traditional broker, maaaring tawagan ng investor ang broker para makapag-transact. Kung ikaw naman ay may account sa isang Online Stock Broker (gaya ng COL Financial), ikaw mismo ang siyang mageexecute ng buy & sell order mo sa kanilang website sa pamamagitan ng iyong computer at internet connection..

How the Stock traded?

-Kapag nakapag-open ka na ng account sa isang Stock Broker ,Traditional o Online Stock Brokers, magagawa mo ng bumili(Buy) o magbenta(Sell) ng Share of Stock ng isang Publicly-listed companies. Kung sa traditional broker, kailangang tawagan ng investor(ikaw!) ang kaniyang broker sa tuwing mag-e-execute ka ng iyong buy or sell orders, at ibigay mo sa kanya ang mga kinakailangang detalye gaya ng kung anong stocks ng kumpanya ang bibilhin o ibebenta, ilang “shares” at sa magkanong amount mo gustong mabili or mabenta yung stock.

At kapag online stock broker naman, magagawa mong bumili at magbenta ng stocks ng publicly-listed companies kahit nasa bahay ka lang, sa harap ng iyong computer basta may internet connection. Mas kumportable ito at mas maliit ang service charge kaysa sa traditional stock broker. Kailangan mo lang mag-open ng account sa isang online stock broker( see my post "Step by Step guide kung paano mag-open ng account with COL Financial) para magsimulang makapag-trade sa stock market.

When a buy or sell order is placed for any listed company on the Philippine Stock Exchange (PSE), the stockbroker or trading participant (TP) transmits the order electronically to the PSE. All trades or executed transactions can be viewed on the ticker tape report real-time. You can monitor the trades on the ticker tape on TV, such as ABS-CBN News Channel, Insular Board in Makati City, and through PSE’s and stockbrokers’ websites.Upon placement of a buy or sell order, your stockbroker will give you a confirmation receipt as proof of your trade. After a period of one trading day and another working day (T+1), you should receive a written confirmation of your order. If you placed your order online, you should receive your order confirmation immediately or within 24 hours.
